Great Plains Fall Banquet and Community Celebration

Blair joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 while Cabry, a graduate of Great Plains Pre-Engineering Program, was recently commissioned from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He is attended the Officers Basic Course at Fort Sill.

More than 250 GPTC patrons swelled McCasland Ballroom, Cameron University on October 26th at Great Plains Fall Banquet and Community Celebration.  The event’s goal was to elevate awareness of how Great Plains Technology Center and its non-profit Foundation work together to help ensure student access to career education.  Guest Speaker for the event was LTG, David Halverson, a former CG of Fort Sill and the FIRES Center of Excellence.  The three star general now commands more than 140 U.S. Army installation operations worldwide.  General and Mrs. (Karen) Halverson’s daughters, Anna and Ellen completed Great Plains Pre-Engineering program in 2010 and 2011 respectively.  Anna was recently graduated from Notre Dame University.  General Halverson commended Great Plains Pre-Engineering instructors for properly preparing his daughters for the academic rigor expected of a university student.  Nationally renowned guitarist Edgar Cruz provided entertainment at the event while Great Plains Student Ambassadors provided a David Letterman-style Top Ten reasons to celebrate Lawton-Fort Sill.  The event conclude with a salute to Dr. George Bridges who was a charter member of the Foundation Board and who has also on the Great Plains Board of Education nearly 40 years.   “The financial goal of the fundraiser was to bring in $100,000 to the Foundation for the fourth quarter of the year”, Glen Boyer, Executive Director of the Foundation, said.  Boyer added that thanks to the generosity of the Banquets attendees about 65% of the goal has already been achieved.
