Twenty Great Plains students compete at national skills and leadership competitions.

Donovan Morrissette, arm raised, celebrates his first place finish in the state Skills USA Auto Service Tech competition. Donovan is one of 20 GPTC students who will compete at nationals!

Three Great Plains students competed at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) championships in Anaheim, CA, and all three won top honors.  Brothers Kevin and Stephen Alexander won 1st place in the Computer Animation Team competition while Xavier Velazquez won 1st Runner-up in the Computer Network Technology Security Fundamentals competition.

Nineteen Great Plains students qualified to compete at national Career Tech Student Organization championships.  In addition to the three BPA representatives 11 health occupation students will also travel to Anaheim on June 22nd for the National Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competition. Anna Digby, Stephanie Fikes and Gabby Phillips will compete as a Creative Problem Solving Team while Kaitlin Fitzpatrick and Chelsea Wilcox will compete as the CERT Skills Team. Individual competitors and their contests include: Stephanie Parkinson, Medical Law and Ethics; Jeremiah Tahah, Clinical Specialty; Morgan Whitehead, Home Health Aide; Robbie Martin, Physical Therapy; Tabitha Dunavent, Sports Medicine; and Sara Stanfield, Veterinary Medicine.

This year’s SKILLS USA competition will be held in Louisville starting June 23rd.  Representing Great Plains and Oklahoma: Tyler Hudson and Lance Webb, 3D Animation Team; Donovan Morrissette, Automotive Service Technology; Sean Holmgren, Automotive Refinishing Technology; and Xavier Schucker, Criminal Justice.
